It’s hard to stay committed to the process and your walk in life. You’re going to make mistakes, but always keep moving. It's not going to be easy in the beginning, but it will be worth it at the end. For your steps are already ordained by the Lord. Nothing in life is just handed to you. At some point in your life, you’re going to have to struggle to get to where you want to be. So without further ado, I present to you a young black creative with big, luxurious dreams, strong family ties, and is arriving to his destiny. Ladies and gents give it up for "Spencer The Dreamer".
The UpNext: Who is Spencer Sanders in 3 words?
Spencer Sanders: “Humble, smart, fly!”
The UpNext: What’s your motto/mantra?
Spencer: “Everybody hates you, till they love you. There is no love without pain.”
The UpNext: Wow! That's deep, but so true. Where are you from? How has your city made an impact on who you are?
Spencer: “I am from Highland Park Michigan, the inner city of Detroit. My city has shaped me to make me hungry for my dreams, more alert to real world situations, and prepared for the pros and cons the world has to offer.”
The UpNext: What inspired you to start the Arrival clothing brand? What’s the significance of the name Arrival Worldwide?
Spencer: “My mother has been in the clothing business for 16 years, which subconsciously being around her made me fall in love with clothes. The original meaning of the brand name came from the concept of with hard work and dedication, you can arrive to.”
The UpNext: What kind of individual is arrival worldwide made for?
Spencer: “People who like to get fly, luxuriously. Also for anybody who is a dream chaser and respects hustle in general. Achieving goals is a never ending cycle in life, everything takes a vision with hustle and hard work.”
The UpNext: What’s a lesson you’ve learned the hard way in the fashion industry?
Spencer: “Don’t get your hopes when dealing with other people in the industry, who say they may do something, but it doesn’t end up in your favor.”
The UpNext: What keeps motivated as an entrepreneur?
Spencer: “My family keeps me motivated because I want to make them proud and the fact my brand and my name alone can live forever till after I die.”
The UpNext: Who’s your mentor? What drew you to that person?
Spencer: “My mother is my mentor because we are in the same industry and she has been in the industry for 16+ years. Well, that second question is self explanatory.”
The UpNext: Of course! What’s the first item you ever sold? How has your business evolved since then?
Spencer: “A graphic T-shirt of an airplane that said: humble, smart, fly. At first it was more like just a t-shirt brand, but now its a full luxury streetwear brand with: hats, hoodies, jackets, socks, etc.”
The UpNext: What made you take fashion more seriously to make it a career ?
Spencer: “When I first left Howard University, life hit me, and I didn‘t have too many options, so I had to go full force with the brand in real life, where only Arrival would feed me.”
The UpNext: What are you fascinated by at the moment and how does it feed into your work?
Spencer: “At this moment I'm fascinated with the more luxurious things that life has to offer. Primarily because the state I live in. Living in LA, you see all types of motivation from fancy cars, beautiful homes in the hills, and amazing views of the city.”
The UpNext: What advice would you give to aspiring designers?
Spencer: “I would tell them to expand their horizons by not by being trapped in their hometown, and to also grow their business in real life and not just live behind a computer screen.”
